Just in time for more snow…

with 4 comments

SHUT UP!  This is totally not a post about the weather! I am SO not writing about the weather, I swear!

Well…okay, I’m writing about the weather a little bit.

After the first few snow falls of the year, I decided that I needed snow boots. Actual snow boots. Not cold-weather-only-will-be-totally-soaked-through-in-the-snow boots, aka Uggs. See, Uggs are fine if you’re just walking to class, or to the car, or even to the subway. If, however, you plan to spend hours on end shoveling out your car, Uggs are not ideal.

Now let me stop you right here. I’m not saying that Uggs are a fashion statement. I’m just saying that they are a good option for the snow and cold of the Northeast.

So as I was saying, I needed good solid snow boots for shoveling, etc. I haven’t owned real snow boots since, well:

Anyway, it was about time I found a pair. So I was trolling the Nordstrom Web site and found some awesome boots:

Now I was all set and ready to shell out the $94.95 for these boots, after all, good snow boots can last you for 10 years. And then one morning I woke up, hopped onto Rue La La, and there they were. For a mere $49.00. And now, here they are:

Also in time for more snow? My Caribbean cruise! That’s right, for the next week, Boo and I will be cruising around the Caribbean, revisiting our first honeymoon location of Key West, swimming with stingrays, and tanning like the sun will be burning out tomorrow.

Sadly though, while my cruise means you’ll all hate me for being somewhere warm, you’ll also be missing my lovely wit for the next week.

Something tells me you’ll all be most upset about being stuck in the cold though, won’t you?

errand day

Sweater, American Eagle; Lace-trimmed tank, American Eagle; Jeans, American Eagle; Chuck Taylor All Stars, Converse

Wow.  Apparently I should have titled this post “all American Eagle, all the time.”  It was entirely coincidental that everything I was wearing was from AE.  Anyway, as the title should have indicated, this was an errand running outfit.  I needed something basic and simple but still cute.  I have enough trouble being mistaken for a co-ed on a normal basis, but since I live in a college town (or more accurately in a town that’s within 5 minutes of at least 5 colleges) I can’t just run to the grocery store in a hoodie–even on the days when I really really want to!

Plus, I realized something now that I’ve graduated (and by “now that” I mean it will be 3 years in May): PJ pants in public are not socially acceptable.  I could condone it in certain instances, however.  For example, if you wandered into Dunkin Donuts on a Saturday morning, hungover from whatever party you were at the night before, and you were wearing some plaid PJ pants and a hoodie, maybe it would be okay.  If, however, you were to be wearing your white fleece pants with planets and stars and moons on them to the grocery store in the middle of the day…not so okay.

Tee, Gap; Skirt, Converse One Star for Target; Tights, Target; Scarf, Converse One Star for Target; DV by Dolce Vita “Ted” Boot, Nordstrom

This past weekend was just full of the love as Boo and I had the wedding on Friday night and my brother’s engagement party on Saturday night.  I’m going to be a bridesmaid and this was going to be my first time meeting some of the other girls in the wedding.  Couple that with the fact that Boo and I are about 5 years younger than everyone who was there and I wanted to make sure I looked good–even if I was the only one there in a skirt!

Speaking of skirts, the skirt (which is still available here) is actually a black chambray and is not shiny, even though it sort of looks like it is in the pictures!

At the very last minute, I decided to add the scarf for a little pop of color (even if it was a dark color).  Now that I’m not in NYC I need to remember that I don’t always need to rock the all-or-mostly black uniform to go out at night!

Dress/belt, BCBGMaxAzria via Rue La La; Cami, Nordstrom Rack; Tights, Target; Oxfords, Marc Fisher via DSW.

I bought this dress to wear to the wedding of Boo’s and my lovely friends, Danielle and Andrew.  I popped onto Rue La La one morning, saw this dress, and just knew it would be perfect (albeit a bit low cut!).  I didn’t even know that the dress came with a belt until it showed up at my door, but it’s a good thing it did b/c it doesn’t really have any shape without the belt.  I think I’m going to look for a similar belt with either a black or silver buckle because I’m not a fan of the gold–especially b/c the pattern is grey/white.

The dress I really like because it is more than just a standard, V-neck black dress.  The ruffles are kind of asymmetrical and they continue onto the back.  There is also an asymmetrical seam down the front.  I think these are the little details that can really make your look stand out.  Not to mention my neon blue cami!  What can I say, the bride told me her colors were blue and white 😉

And the oxfords.  My lovely lovely oxfords!  I found a pair that I thought I would just love while I was living in NYC but was never brave enough to pull the trigger and just buy them already.  But of course I never did and I’ve regretted it since.  But then I wandered into DSW one day and there they were, sitting on the shelf, looking just sturdy enough to hold up but not so stiff that they’d rip up my feet and I went for it.  And I’m so glad I did.  I was the only girl at the wedding who kept her shoes on all night–and wasn’t regretting it the next day!

And what would a post about a wedding outfit be without a picture of the lovely bride?

spiffy sweats

with 3 comments

Sweatshirt, Old Navy (from forever ago!); Tank, Forever 21; Jeans, American Eagle; Chuck Taylor All Stars, Converse

This is me, sans makeup, but with freshly cut hair!  Freshly cut hair, which, I have to admit, I’m sorry to debut in it’s end-of-day mode instead of in it’s freshly styled mode.  Oh well.

So this sweatshirt was the perfect thing for today.  I wanted to be comfy (hence the sweats) but still needed to look presentable b/c the SafeLite guys were coming to fix the chip in my windshield (thank you very much big stupid truck who threw that cinder into my windshield on Tuesday).  I’ve had this shirt forever and it’s kind of awesome.  Comfortable but still thin enough that I think I could get brave and throw a blazer on with it for different kind of look.  (Yes, I have seen the blazer with sweats.  No, I will never be able to find the image in my massive inspiration folder right now.  Le sigh).

I also want to take a quick second in this post to gripe about these pants.  They are “skinny” jeans.  It says so on the inside wasitband in fact.  And yet, I’ve worn them a handful of times, washed them, and they are so immensely stretched that they are useless.  I don’t get this.  The waist fits the way it is supposed to (snugly, but not so snug that it is cutting of my circulation and forcing me to unbutton just so I can sit down/forms an extremely attractive muffin top) and yet the legs are now super baggy.  I can’t figure out who they are supposed to fit.  Like, are they assuming their target consumer has super thick legs and a size 2 waist?  And are they assuming that people with super skinny legs have zero butt?  I’m sorry to say it, but I have hips.  AND I have a butt.  And I like having those things.  And yet, despite that, I can’t zip up a size 0.  So…what’s the deal with the pant sizing.  Anyone?  Anyone?

101 Dalmatians

with 4 comments

Last night Boo and I watched a bit of the Westminster Kennel Dog Show.  I love dogs.  I have the most serious puppy fever and all I want is a golden retriever!!  Of course, that means that watching the dog shows is a bit torturous.  Most of these dogs are super cute…some of them (I’m looking at you, sporting group) have some serious hair issues.  There was one spaniel in particular whose ears looked she was totally rocking an 80s perm.  And the rest of the spaniels that look like they are wearing long skirts when they walk because of the way their hair swishes!  Loves it!

But anyway, the whole time I was watching all I kept thinking about was that scene at the beginning of 101 Daltmatians where Pongo is trying to pick out a lady for Roger and he sees all the dogs that match their owners (or vice versa, depending on how you look at it):

(It starts at minute 4:53 if you’re interested)

I love this movie, by the way.  It was definitely one of the Disney DVDs I got for Christmas.  And please, don’t mind the subtitles in the above clip.

That’s it for today.  Short and sweet for the middle of the week 🙂

Oh, but a picture of what I think is the funniest dog in the whole show:

high maintenance

High Maintenance tee, sample; Long Sleeved tissue tee, sample; Jeans, Delia*s; Boots, Uggs

la

The title of this post is a little bit ironic–there is nothing high maintenance about this outfit other than the graphic on the shirt.  This was actually a lazy Sunday afternoon outfit, perfect for grocery shopping with Boo.  This was a standard outfit for me back in the day but when I put it on on Sunday, it just didn’t feel like me anymore.  So maybe I’m growing up.  I suppose it’s time, me being 25 and all, but I’ll never be able to fully give up my graphic tees.
