Leather jacket, Guess; Tank, Old Navy; Deep v sweater, Madewell; Jeans, Gap; DV by Dolce Vita “Ted” Boot, Nordstrom

I finally got to wear the leather jacket I got for my birthday!  The weather was too cold after I got it and too warm after we got home from the cruise.  It seemed like the only week it was leather weather was while we were gone!  But we had another cold snap so I finally busted out my new coat!  Mama and Papa B were in town last weekend so I wore this when they came in last Friday (which meant I wore it for errands and dinner out with the fam!).

I have nothing to call this post

Shirt dress, Old Navy; Leggings, Delia*s; Air Petra Tall Boot, Cole Haan via Rue La La

Thankfully I was more creative when I put this outfit together than I am now that I’m writing it (total title blank)!  I had originally wanted to wear this tunic with tights but it was like, half an inch too short so I switched it leggings.  I wore this outfit for a quick Whole Foods run and on the way I stopped at Anthropologie.  This outfit turned out to be great for shopping as it was a little less effort than my standard shopping uniform of basic tee and jeans (which is basically just my standard everyday outfit too).

Sunday is Tar-jhay day*

with 2 comments

Tee, Urban Outfitters; Jeans, Abercrombie & Fitch (via a friend’s incredible discount haha!); Moccasins, Target

la

This is a typical Sunday for me and Boo.  Target is our happy place.  Well, normally.  This Sunday it was annoying b/c the Liberty of London stuff launched and by 12:15 all of the housewares were sold out.  And please don’t get me started on the fit of the clothing.  This is not a line designed for short, busty girls, let’s just leave it at that.

I posted this picture for a few reasons.  First is that I like having a few pictures of me on here without any makeup.  I’m not big into makeup and I spend most of my days with a naked face so why not show that here?  Second, you might notice that I left this picture wide instead of cropping like I normally do.  That’s because I kind of love what the rain was doing to the wall behind me!

*Did you all like the phonetics in the title haha?!

Jacket, Express; Skirt, Express; Blouse, J. Crew Outlet; Tights, Target; Oxfords, Marc Fisher via DSW

I wore this outfit to an interview the Monday after I got home from vacation.  Unfortunately, I didn’t get the job.  I guess it’s hard to break back into journalism after being out of it for a few years.  It’s been a few years since I’ve interviewed anywhere and it was tricky to pick out an outfit.  My past interviews were all with fashion companies, either PR companies or designers, and so I had a lot of liberties with what I wore.  Suits just seemed silly but I still needed to look professional so I did a lot of suit separates, cute tops, and fun accessories.  But going in for a journalism interview I decided to pull the suit back out.  Well, sort of.  The jacket belongs to a suit and the skirt just happened to be on sale for a ridiculously low $19.99 and since I could wear them together I couldn’t resist picking it up.  I went with the skirt for this interview because I wanted something a little cuter and I wanted to still show my sense of style (hence the oxfords).  Plus, it’s always safer to split the suit up.  That way you still have something professional to wear if you get called back for second or third interviews–and trust me, that came in handy in NYC!

Oh, and I took this picture about 2 hours earlier than I normally do which is why A) it’s so awkwardly sunny and B) I took an inside pic to show a little more outfit detail.  But I wanted to post one silly outtake from my outside pics.

And I wish I brought this chair outside for this picture but I didn’t.  It lives outside with the desk it belongs to because we have nowhere to store them and haven’t had a chance to sell them yet.  Anyone in the Philly area want to buy a desk 😛

Not your standard theater garb

Tank, Forever 21; Jeans, Gap; Sandals, Target

la

While the dress code in the evenings was supposed to be “smart casual” and jeans were frowned upon, we used our under-30 status to our advantage and embraced the “jeans as acceptable evening wear” way of life and wore jeans to the ship’s theater.  And no one yelled at us, so I guess we were in the clear!  It was just a bit chilly at night to wear dresses for the whole night.

I bought this shirt like 2 days before we left.  I hit up Forever 21 to see if I could snag a few cute, summery pieces and this tank just screamed out “perfect for cruising!”  I should have taken a picture of the back too–it buttons the whole way up the back and I love that little extra detailing.  Plus, this shirt is really versatile.  It worked well with jeans, would look cute belted with shorts (I actually planned to wear it with a woven belt that I totally forgot to pack), and would be great under a blazer.  I can’t find the tank online anymore, but F21 still has a similar style online here.

Making farmer’s tan look good

with 2 comments

Dress, Aqua via Bloomingdale’s; Sandals, Target

la

I promise I didn’t get that much color in one day.  This was actually what I wore for dinner on Thursday.  But I have a good reason for not showing my Tuesday/Wednesday outfits.  Tuesday night was rough.  The waves were 6-7 feet high and as you sat in the dining room you could actually see swaying back and forth.  Our table-mates dropped like flies that night.  We started with eight people.  Two of the boys (Boo included) went to buy motion-sickness medication for their significant others.  While they were gone, our food showed up and we lost two more girls.  The guys came back; Boo stayed and the other guy took his girlfriend back to their room.  I bowed out before dessert.  Only Boo and one other couple lasted the whole meal.  It was a crazy night.

Wednesday was our formal night.  I wore the same outfit that I wore in this post so I figured no point in showing you guys that dress again.  Especially not so soon after showing you the first time!  But here’s a pic of Boo from formal night:

This is the suit he wore for our wedding.  He’s so handsome, isn’t he?

Anyway, in the spirit of recycling our wedding outfits, the dress I’m wearing is the dress I wore for our sparkler exit from our wedding.  And the sexy blue wrist bands?  Those are my sea bands.  They were miracle workers but the tan lines they left behind match my totally awesome farmer’s tan.

Maxi dress Monday

with 2 comments

Maxi dress, kensie girl; Gladiator sandals, madden girl via DSW

(please excuse the red-eye, the flash marks, and the sheen of the spandex in this picture!)

This is what I wore for our first dinner on the ship, which by the way, was the Celebrity Century.  There was a dress code, “smart casual,” but I chose to err on the side of dressed-up for the first night.  This black dress worked well for whichever tone the dining room took.  If everyone at our table was wearing denim skirts and tee shirts, I would only look a little over-dressed.  But if everyone was wearing sundresses I’d fit in just fine.  As it turned out, everyone at our table was my age or younger (except for one girl) so there was a pretty casual vibe.
