studs and stripes forever

Flutter sleeve tee, John Varvatos for Converse (via sample sale); Cami (underneath), Old Navy; Jeans, Delia*s; Flats, Target

Apparently this was the week I unearthed all of my JV samples because here’s another one.  This shirt actually hung out in my closet for quite awhile b/c I never really had a great tank to wear under it (and I just feel like I need a tank b/c the flutter is a bit low and I’d rather see a tank than a bra!) but I finally found one during Old Navy’s Stuff and Save (20% off?  Yes please!).  I also found these shoes this week.  They look just like my black flats from Target, don’t they?  Well I fooled you then didn’t I?!

Ta da!  They are studded on the heels!  I mean, yes, technically, they are the same as my black flats but this version of them comes with a little more oomph.  Here’s what really sold me on these flats (even though it was the reason I originally passed them up!):  The studs are only visible with skirts/dresses/shorts.  I thought this was a bad thing but then I realized that it’s kind of like getting the best of both worlds.  There’s some flair for days when I’m showing them off, but when I just need a brown flat, they serve the purpose of a basic flat.

Dress, Converse One Star (via Target); Sandals, Isaac Mizrahi for Target

This was actually my submission for Weardrobe’s Perfectly Pastoral contest.  This contest was actually perfect timing for me to show off this dress.  I’ve been looking for a cute floral dress FOREVER and finally found one that I liked.  Plus, the colors are a bit muted so they’ll work well in the fall with tights and boots!  I always like a good two-fer!  Also, in case you couldn’t tell, this was my first attempt at playing with the Poladroid software.  I’ve gotta say…it’s pretty cool!

Ruffle sleeve tee, John Varvatos for Converse (via sample sale); Tank (underneath), Target; Jeans, Gap; Flats, Gap

Our good friends Chad and Kelly came down last week to have dinner with us while Chad was in town from Texas.  Chad was one of the groomsmen in our wedding and we haven’t seen him since October so it was really great to have dinner and spend time with them!  I wanted to wear something cute but not too dressy (i.e. no skirts) because Chelly (oh yes, that’s all my doing…I sometimes run all my words together when I’m talking fast/excited and I accidentally called them Chelly once and it stuck.  You’re welcome guys!) aren’t a dressy couple.  Some groups of friends I know I can safely rock a dress or skirt and not look like I’m trying.  Some groups are just laid back and jeans are the way to go.

I got this shirt during one of our many in-office sample sales and I really like it.  It’s a bit boxy so I paired it with my skinny jeans.  Normally I avoid boxy tops because of the ladies but the ruffles on the sleeves were just too sweet to pass up.  I’m thinking that I need to find a really bright tank (maybe red or pink) to pair with this shirt to give it a little something extra.  In the meantime though, I paired it with my ruby slippers (seriously, how else should I describe these?!) to brighten up the look.

artsy fartsy

Blouse, J. Crew Outlet; Jeans, Gap; Belt, Delia*s; Chuck Taylor All Stars, Converse

This post sat in my drafts folder for a week because I couldn’t come up with anything to name this other than “artsy fartsy” (thank you very much Daddy–that’s Papa B’s inherited sense of  humor right there!).  Once “artsy fartsy” popped into my head I couldn’t get it out and then I thought “well, I can’t hit publish with a title like that, this blog is about style.”  And then I remembered that this blog is about my style and a title like this is MY style!

Anyway…

So I wore this outfit to the Philadelphia Museum of Art.  Boo and I really wanted to go see the Picasso exhibit and it was really cool to see!  And while I was there, of course, I ran into a friend from college (who I haven’t seen since graduation!).  It was definitely a nice way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

sick day

with 2 comments

Today is a sick day.  A stomach sick day.  No. Good.  So today’s outfit is what you see above.  Boo’s sweat pants from high school track.  He gave me these pants 3 years ago (mainly so I’d have sweats to bum around his apartment in) and I’ve never given them back.  They are perfect.  They have pockets (which make ANYTHING better) and they’re slouchy without being overly baggy (at least in my opinion).  Plus, they are Boo’s and that alone makes me feel better 🙂

classic with a twist

Cardigan, Converse John Varvatos Men’s via sample sale; Tee, American Apparel; Jeans, Gap; Oxfords, Marc Fisher via DSW

My uniform in life is a cardigan, tee, jeans and Chucks.  I can (and do) live in that combo because it’s easy and comfortable and the possibilities are endless.  Well, trying to break out of that rut I decided to add a twist to my look so I swapped out my normal cardis for this JV one and I traded my Chucks for my new oxfords (which, sadly enough, gave me a blister–even though I’ve already worn them twice!).  I liked this version of my old standby and I have a feeling I’m going to start pilfering items from Boo’s side of the closet.

Street cakers, I’d like you to meet my husband, Boo.  If you read my other blog then you’ve met Boo before but this is his official street cake debut!  We looked super fancy for Easter (well, for us, on a weekend, this is super fancy!) so I thought it would be a good time for a photo op!  (Isn’t he so handsome?!)  This has been the first time in a long time that I’ve had a new Easter dress and it was purely coincidental.  I was browsing Rue 2 weeks ago, found this dress, fell in love and voila!  It was at my door in time for Easter!  Boo and I had an amazing Easter weekend.  We chose to celebrate on our own (we originally wanted to host but it didn’t work out) rather than travel for the holiday and we really loved it.  We relaxed all day Saturday and on Sunday we found a really great church that we think we’ll try again (which is great b/c we’ve been looking for awhile) and then we came home and had brunch and mimosas and made brownies!  What’s better than that?
