I am beyond excited for this challenge to start!  And to make things even more fun in my house, my husband, Boo, decided that he is going to participate too!  He’s only remixing work clothes for this challenge and I’ll be remixing work/weekend wear. I hope that you guys are as excited as I am for this remix challenge!  I want to really encourage you guys to comment during this challenge too.  Tell me which combos you liked, which combos you want to see more of, etc., just stop by, say “hi!” and give me a little encouragement along the way.

As a quick heads up: I won’t be posting every day b/c I will be primarily remixing for work and don’t work 5 days/week most weeks.  So this may end up being more of a 30 for 45 haha!

See you guys soon for Look 1!

*NOTE: Whenever possible I will use the actual style/color names of the items.  However for older items this won’t be possible so just bear with whatever name I come up with! (Translation: Most of the Madewell pieces will have accurate names, anything else won’t haha!)

Sweater, Madewell; Tank (underneath), Target; Eyelet shorts, Madewell; Tights, ??? (don’t remember); Boots, Sorel (via Rue La La); Necklace, Madewell

la

Remember when I bought these boots last winter?  I figured that I had secured a snow-free winter b/c normally as soon as you buy something you need you can be assured that you won’t need whatever it is you bought.  Like the day you buy rain boots after a month of rain will be the day that a nationwide drought starts and lasts for months.  Well thankfully I was wrong and I busted these out to wear to work.  I changed to my biker boots when I got in but I kind of loved that these boots inadvertently matched the outfit.  I also  loved pairing these delicate shorts with this sweater!

In other news, it’s possible that I’m crazy, but I have signed up for Kendi’s 30 for 30 Remix: Winter Edition!  I’m really excited for it.  I think it’s definitely going to be a challenge but it’s also going to make getting dressed for work that much easier haha!  So check back next week to see what pieces I plan to remix and how I make them work!

I’m practically a superhero

Chambray, Madewell; Sweater, Gap; Back zip legging jeans,  Madewell; Necklace, J. Crew Factory; Boots, Ugg

la

I’m not a superhero.  But I was a bit of a life saver at work.  I’ll be honest, it’s probably mainly due to how close I live to the mall (or how awesome I am), but either way, when someone called off on an opening shift b/c of snow, I stepped in to save the day.  And I got dressed, did my hair (sort of) and my makeup, and cleaned off my car in under 30 minutes.  That’s the real miracle in all of this.  But despite my rush job, I actually am a little in love with this outfit.  One thing I’ve been really working on since I started working is my layering skills, layering things I wouldn’t normally layer or switching up how I layer them and this outfit is an example of that.  Back in my less sartorial days, I would have worn the chambray under the sweater b/c that’s what is normal.  Shirts go under sweaters, right?  Not so!  It totally worked!  And I’m even wearing denim on denim–and I don’t hate it!

Overalls, Madewell; Catnap Cardigan, Madewell; Tee, Gap; Belt, American Eagle; Brogues, Cole Haan; Buttons/pins, Converse

la

I wore this outfit yesterday and while I was getting dressed I was thinking “I bet my boss is going to wear her overalls today.”  And I was right.  I walked in, saw her, and was just like “uh…yeah, I figured this was going to happen.”  Best part is that it was just the two of us for awhile.  Someone even asked if the overalls were our uniforms.  Nope, it’s just that the only 2 of us who own them happened to wear them on the same day.  Oh, and the best part of this outfit?  I actually remembered to take a detail shot again!  Woo hoo!  Check out the close up of my flair (haha!)

They are all, obviously, Converse pieces.  The leather circle/star was actually pinned into a John Varvatos for Converse skirt.  The CHUCK pin and the crest were actually left behind in one of the desks I inherited and ended up getting packed up with my stuff when I left.

off season and old season

with one comment

Cardigan, Gap; Tee, Gap; Skirt, Madewell; Scarf, Madewell; Belt, American Eagle; Tights, ???(don’t remember, sorry!); Biker boots, Madewell

la

In case you were wondering about the title of this post, the sweater is old season and the skirt is off season.  I got the sweater when I was living in New York so it’s at least a few seasons old.  But it’s huge and it’s comfy and it’s warm and what more can you ask for in a sweater?  As for the skirt, it’s just off season.  I’m pretty sure that it’s more of a summer/early fall type of skirt but that’s the beauty of tights–throw them on under your summer stuff and voila!  Seasonally appropriate!  You can’t really see it because I can’t remember to take detail shots (seriously, how am I still unable to remember this? I mention it every time I post and yet…) but the stripes on the skirt are blue and an off-white.  So I decided to keep up with my pattern mixing and throw on the striped skirt with the patterned scarf and also I added in some color mixing.  The outfit has purple, red, blue, fuchsia, black, white, and brown but it still works!

mix and match

Blouse, Madewell; Tank top, Madewell; Jeans, Madewell; Scarf, H&M; Belt, American Eagle; Brogues, Cole Haan

One thing I have learned to be less afraid of is mixing patterns.  I’m still afraid to do it on a large scale but I figure it’s best to ease myself into it anyway.  So in the name of easing myself in, I mixed this floral scarf with this striped shirt.  It’s nothing earth-shattering but it was good for work and it was a new way to wear my scarf (I tied it in the back to make it into an infinity scarf).

My new boots!

leave a comment »

Cardigan, Gap; Drapey tee, H&M; Legging cords, Madewell; Necklace, vintage (my aunt’s); Biker boots, Madewell

la

So, as the title of this post would suggest, I got new boots!  They were a birthday miracle!  I had been lusting over them and then, on New Year’s Day, just one day after my birthday, there they were.  A pair, returned from an online purchase, in my size.  And the best part is?  The boots were originally $248 and I paid less than $40.  That’s like…98% off!  Okay, well the math may not be accurate, but that is a crazy amount of money to save on super cute boots!  And they are comfortable too.  How often can you mix fashion and comfort?  It truly was a birthday miracle!

And I decided to share some detail shots with you guys too because I finally remembered to take them.

The necklace, as I mentioned, was from my great aunt.  I didn’t like the original chain that it was on so I went to F21, got a long necklace for like $3 and cut the bauble off of it and replaced it with this one.

And the boots…the lovely boots!  They are just amazing so I would expect to see them in many more posts!
