A bit of a cheat

You guys, I have to confess something.  I cheated a bit during the 30 for 30.  Boo and I took a weekend trip in the middle of the remix and I just didn’t want to deal with only wearing remix clothes while we were away.  But I feel like maybe it’s not a total cheat because I’m not posting them until after the 30 for 30, right?  Right.  Okay, good, I’m glad we cleared that up!  As for the outfit…this is the most dressed up I’ve been on a road trip.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m not rocking jammies in the car or anything, but this was definitely more styled than I normally am.  And trust me, this was WAY more styled than anyone else we saw on the turnpike.  I don’t know what it is about turnpike rest stops but it is the messiest of the messy.  Full grown adults are parading around in flannel PJ pants tucked into their Uggs with giant over-sized hoodies.  I just don’t get it!  And the worst are the families, when it’s not just the parents but the kids that are dressed like that.  And everyone runs around the rest stop like animals, yelling and pushing–it’s like a madhouse!  Oh the joys of road trips!

But who am I kidding, I can’t complain about road trips with Boo–I actually don’t mind them at all.  And my favorite part?

That’s right!  Sheetz pretzel meltz!!!

30 for 30 Boo’s third week

with one comment

I know you guys thought that we wrapped up the 30 for 30.  And you aren’t entirely wrong to think that!  I finished my 30 for 30.  But I slacked off a little on posting the rest of Boo’s 30 for 30 so I still need to finish that up.

Day 14: Gap pants, Calvin Klein shirt, J. Crew sweater, Cole Haan shoes

But the best part of Day 14?

That’s right…it’s Boo’s Penn State socks!  We picked them up when we went back to PSU for THON (so…you can pretty much tell how behind I am on posting Boo’s pics!)

Day 15: Gap pants, Nautica shirt, Cole Haan shoes, Cole Haan belt

Day 16: Gap pants, Nautica shirt, Gap sweater, Cole Haan shoes

Day 17: Gap pants, Van Heusen shirt, Cole Haan shoes, Cole Haan belt, Tie (unknown)

Day 18: Gap pants, Kenneth Cole shirt, Gap sweater vest, Cole Haan shoes

Day 19: Gap pants, Kenneth Cole shirt, J. Crew sweater, Cole Haan shoes

A few quick notes about outfit #14 and 19 because I know they look the same.  But guys, they totally aren’t.  And that’s kind of the cool thing about Boo’s remixes–he can use similar pieces to replicate a look if he liked the way an outfit turned out without just wearing the same outfit over and over.  So in #14 he’s wearing a striped shirt and brown pants/shoes and but in #19, he’s got just a plain white shirt  with grey pants/black shoes.  Little swaps like that can change the outfit while keeping the feel of it the same.  (Also…this wasn’t the actual same week, these outfits were split over two weeks…and there were a few days in the middle that Boo just skipped pictures b/c he worked from home).

Yeah, so remember how I said that Friday was my first night back and I had no idea what to wear?  Well…this is what I came up with.  I figured that this might one of the last times that I can wear this sweater until next year so I wanted to make sure I made at least one more outfit because I love this sweater!  The only problem was that when I got to work it was so SO hot in our store!  I couldn’t believe it.  I guess I thought it was colder than it actually was, which was partly due to getting a picture text of my snow-covered front yard at home–I forgot that this side of the state is MUCH warmer!

Check back later today when I finally post more of Boo’s 30 for 30!

30 for 30 recap

with 2 comments

Here’s my month, all lined up!

Phew!  Oh man, what an experience this was.  Tonight is my first night getting dressed for work without my 30 for 30 pieces and I have NO idea what to wear!!  Which is weird because towards the end I started really missing my other clothes.  In fact, one morning I woke up after having literally dreamed about an outfit that I NEEDED to wear…except I couldn’t because it wasn’t in my 30 for 30!  I knew once I started dreaming about other clothes I was in trouble!

I loved doing this remix.  I now have plans to do a massive closet clean-out because I realized that I don’t need (or, if we’re being honest, probably even want) half of the clothes that are in there.  I am ready to downsize and invest in great pieces that I love and will wear a lot.  I’m planning to focus on what I actually need in my closet and when I go shopping now I want to buy pieces that I know I can do a lot with (basically, these are all of Kendi’s tips–that girl is a genius!)

So now that it’s all said and done (well…except for poor Boo, but he’s almost done too!) would I do it again?  Honestly, I think I might.  Not right away of course, but I definitely think I would try this again.  I learned a lot from this remix.  For one thing, I learned that putting pieces into the remix that I liked but wasn’t wearing in an effort to wear them more didn’t necessarily work out (re: studded flats, striped skirt). I learned that I really need to figure out some other footwear options with my overalls (apparently I only think they work with my brogues b/c that is all I paired them with!).  I also learned that my favorite pose is clearly my hand on my right hip (at least 7 of the above pictures have that pose–it would have been more but I started seeing the pattern and purposely chose different poses!).

Now, if you’ll excuse me, it’s time for me to get reacquainted with the rest of my clothes!

30 for 30 Day 26-30

leave a comment »

Okay, I just can’t let this 30 for 30 drag on for another week into March so get ready for one super ginormous remix post!

Day 26

Day 27

Day 28

Day 29

Day 30

la

My outfits have been done for a few days but the not posting on the weekends put me really behind on my 30 for 30 so I threw all of the last few days together.  Day 26 was a brunch run so I wanted something that was cute but easy.  Day 27 I love because I really love the look of a long sweater with shorts.  It seems scandalous from the back but it’s not at all and there is just something about that that I like in an outfit, that little interesting element. Day 28 was looking a little too basic.  When I bought that sweater forever ago I planned to wear it with shorts but when I put the outfit together it was missing a little something so I added the pop of pink.  Day 29 I switched the tights from the grey to the black tights and I definitely think that that helped the look out a little bit.  Day 30 I wanted to end with a bang, but, well, I think my “bang” pieces were debuted earlier on.  Whoops!  But I still really liked this outfit.  I don’t feel like any of the pieces went together: there is no blue in the shirt, but I wore my flats anyway; the flats have silver studs but the necklace is brass; the sweater is creams/browns but the shirt has black undertones.  And yet, despite all of that, I felt the whole outfit pulled together really well and I really dig the finished product!

30 for 30 Day 25

For whatever reason, I can’t get good pictures of this skirt.  I love the skirt and I love the skirt/sweater combo but it’s always annoyingly bright outside and there is bad lighting inside.  It’s just an absolute mess.  Of course that’s just the pictures, because the outfit itself I absolutely loved.  LOVED!  It was comfortable, it was cute, it was put together but still laid back.  I will definitely be re-wearing this outfit after the remix is over.

The pieces in outfit #25 are:

Madwell Arabesque Skirt, Night Fall

Madewell Tribute Tee, Pale Sea

Madewell Pointelle Cardigan, Poppy

Madewell Biker Boot, True Black

ACCESSORIES:

Converse scarf (sample)

Tights

30 for 30 Day 23 and 24

with 2 comments

la

Two outfits in one post, look at me maximizing my outfits.  I wore outfit 23 during the day and then outfit 24 to work at night.  It’s amazing how a few accessories and a change from leggings to jeggings can really change the vibe of a look.  I mean yes, at the heart of them, they are both casual looks, but the work outfit is definitely more pulled together.  Plus, I got to wear a belt that I almost forgot I had.  I love finding accessories hiding in the back of my closet–it’s like when you find a $10 bill stuck in a winter coat at the beginning of the season.

The pieces in outfit #23 and #24 are:

Target Mossimo Cropped Legging, True Black

Madewell Back Zip Legging Jean, Chasm Wash

Madewell Striped Dolman Tee

Madewell Pointelle Cardigan, Baronial Plum

Converse Chuck Taylor All Star, Black

Madewell Biker Boot, True Black

ACCESSORIES:

Urban Outfitters belt

Madewell necklace
