Plain white tee

with one comment

Jeans, Madewell; Tee, Gap; Vest, Madewell; Necklace, Madewell; Shoes, Toms via Nordstrom

I love a plain white tee and jeans.  It’s simple, it’s classic, what’s not to like?  But then there are days when you need to take that simple look and up it just a bit.  Keep it simple, keep it classic, but add on a little something extra.  So that’s what this is.  My simplest of simple outfits with a vest thrown in for good measure.  I have to say, I could see this being a go-to look for work this summer.

How was everyone’s Memorial Day weekend?!

Finally back in action

Skirt, Madewell; Tank, J. Crew; Cardigan, Madewell; Necklace, Madewell; Socks, Madewell; Boots, Madewell

You may have noticed that I haven’t posted in like, 2 weeks.  I was sick, totally out of commission, for over a week.  It was the worst.  I had a horrible ear infection.  When the doctor told me that was what it was I was like “wow…how old am I?”  I hadn’t had an ear infection since I was like, 7, so it definitely threw me for a loop.  My ears are still a little bit plugged up which is a bummer but I’ve gotten rid of that “underwater” feeling that I had so that’s at least a plus.

Anyway, on to the outfit.  I love the skirt.  It’s a bit high-waisted, with a little bit of a paper bag effect…basically it has a lot of little details that just make it awesome.  And I wanted to get a bit of a nerd vibe going to so I threw the socks on with the boots.  I can’t wait to wear this skirt all summer…I have a feeling I’m going to love with some bright sandals!

Jeans, Madewell; Tank, Old Navy; Shirt, Madewell; Necklace, Madewell; Bracelet, Madewell; Shoes, Cole Haan (via Nordstrom Rack)

As you can see, the focal point of this outfit is my fabulous pair of new shoes!  I saw them and fell instantly in love–they were just too quirky not to have!  Unfortunately they still need a bit of time to be broken in b/c after about 3 hours I had to switch shoes.  I’m just glad that I had the foresight to bring an extra pair of shoes with me to work!  But aren’t they so amazing?

As for the rest of my outfit, it felt like the perfect thing for spring.  The shirt is a crinkle cotton and is so light and airy that when I paired it with jeans I was the perfect temperature for once.  Plus, I can’t wait to bust this shirt out on those scorching hot July days with a pair of shorts!

Insert pun about “maxi” stuff here

Maxi skirt, Target; Tank, J. Crew; Cardigan, Madewell; Scarf, gift; Bracelet, Madewell; Boots, Madewell;

The temptation, okay, my temptation, when faced with the word “maxi” is to make some pun.  You know, like “MAXImum effect” or “MAXImizing style” or something lame like that.  I think it stems back to my days in high school yearbook when word play like that was not only acceptable but encouraged.

Anyway, onto the outfit.  I decided that I wanted a maxi skirt this year.  What’s not to like about a maxi skirt?  Skirts are always comfortable and the length means that I don’t necessarily have to shave 😉  This is the first time I’ve ever worn a maxi skirt with boots–heck, this is the first time I would have even thought to do that!  I didn’t hate the look.  I’m not sure if I love it yet, I think I still need to work on the styling, but I definitely didn’t hate it.  I’m just so used to wearing sandals with something like this and I had to fight my impulses to throw on some gladiators.  Of course that’s what I’ll be rocking this summer but I definitely wanted to try something new with this look.

Apparently I don’t know what season it is

Skinny cargo pants, Gap; Tee, J. Crew; Blouse, Madewell; Necklace, Madewell; Boots, Madewell

I can’t imagine why, but I seem to have fall on the brain, at least when it comes to colors.  This is my second outfit (at least) in the past few days that has featured fall colors.  Oh well, I like fall colors–they look good on me!  Anyway, I don’t have a ton to say about this look.  This was an opening shift outfit and it is very hard for me to be creative that early in the morning.  It’s hard for me to be very anything that early in the morning though haha!  I guess this is the perfect outfit post for a Monday morning, a bit blah for a bit of a blah day, right?

Fall in the spring

leave a comment »

Dress, Converse One Star via Target; Cardigan, Madewell; Scarf, gift; Boots, Cole Haan Air Petra tall boots

la

I was so glad to be able to pull this dress out of the closet again.  Although it is a bit of weird dress–it was from a spring collection and I only wear it during the spring, but it definitely has a fall feel to it.  It ended up being a bit perfect though for one of the many cold and dreary days last month.  And I worked on my pattern mixing again and was pretty pleased with the results.  Technically neither of the colors in the scarf are in the dress but it I sill think it all worked well together.

Nothing more American than jeans and a tee shirt

with 2 comments

Jeans, Madewell; Tee, American Apparel; Chambray, Madewell; Biker boots, Madewell; Necklace, Madewell; Bracelet, gift from Daddy (from a shop in Saratoga)

la

A certain husband of mine seems to think that this outfit makes me look like a certain New Jersey-based musician.  I’m afraid don’t know what he’s talking about.  I mean, jeans, boots and a white tee–isn’t that just classic Americana?

Anyway…

So let me talk to you about this shirt for a second, may I?  I love this white tee.  It is by far the best one I’ve ever found.  But here’s the problem with it.  It has no style name or number or anything and the last time I went to AA and tried to buy a second one, I couldn’t find it.  I tried on every white tee in there but none of them were as sturdy (re:  not see through) as this one or were the same shape as this one.  Why American Apparel, why?!  How could you do this to me?  How you could you lure me in with a fabulous white tee shirt and then just leave me hanging?  It’s the worst.  And now my hunt for the perfect white tee shirt is back on.
