Shorts, American Eagle; Tank, J. Crew; Chambray, Madewell; Necklace, Madewell; Boat shoes, Steve Madden kids (via Gilt)

I have a few secrets to tell you about this outfit.  The first?  I have had these shorts for 7 years.  I bought them the summer after my freshman year of college.  I would have replaced them by now except that, well, they’re just too damn comfortable.  They are perfectly broken in and they’ve held up remarkably well.  Not to mention that every subsequent pair of madras shorts AE has put out has had that stupid eagle emblazoned (LARGELY, I might add) somewhere super obvious on the shorts so there’s no replacing these now.  The second secret?  I guess it’s not entirely a secret since I mentioned it in my outfit details but, yes, my shoes are kids shoes.  And let me tell you, they are EXACTLY the same as the adult style.  I had seen these at Nordstrom and tried them on but was only “eh” about them.  Then they popped up on Gilt, in a Steve Madden kids sale, for just $19.  So I pulled the trigger.  The best thing about having small feet is that you can sneak little kids shoes and they are ALWAYS cheaper.  Obviously this won’t work in all cases but when you can get away with it, why not save the money, right?

Mini Me

Skirt, American Apparel; Tank (bottom), Madewell; Tank (top), Madewell; Chambray, Madewell; Necklace, Madewell; Sandals, Target

Oh, what a day I was having when I wore this (2 weeks ago because my vacation put me behind on posting).  You probably noticed that I chose to accessorize with my Sea-Bands.  Oh yeah, always a sign of a good day.  I’d been on and off nauseated* for a few days and let me just say what a pain that was!  So I needed to find something that would put no pressure on my stomach.  Oddly enough I ended up with this American Apparel mini that had been hiding in my closet since my bachelorette party.  Gotta love the lack the of elastic!

*can that be my excuse for why my feet are cut off in all these pictures?

Shorts, Madewell; Tank, Target; Blouse, Madewell; Belt, J. Crew; All Star Slip, Converse

This outfit has done double duty lately.  I wore the version you are seeing here (along with a kickin’ straw fedora that I didn’t have for the pictures) to go outlet shopping with the hubby and then I swapped out the white tank for a grey one and swapped the grey Chucks for grey Toms and wore it on our road trip up to New York last week.  It’s really all because of that blouse.  The blues are amazing and the shirt is the perfect weight for the summer.  But don’t think that will stop me from wearing this shirt all year long!

I love a black maxi dress.  It is so simple but so chic.  Just toss on a few accessories and you’re good to go.  In fact, since this outfit didn’t really need much (and since it’s Friday) I’m not going to say much about it.  I’m just going to let the pictures talk!

Happy Friday everyone!

The battle of the AC

with 2 comments

Legging jeans, Madewell; Tank (bottom), Madewell; Tank (top) Nordstrom BP; Chambray, Madewell; Necklace, Madewell; Bracelet, Madewell; Sandals, Nordstrom

This seems like quite a lengthy outfit item list for the middle of the summer, doesn’t it?  But that’s the battle of the AC.  It can be like, a million degrees outside with a 1000% humidity but you still have to factor in what the AC will be like.  And of course, some days and some places the AC is killer and some days and some places it’s barely on.  So you learn the master the summer layers.  Or you try to anyway.  This was my latest attempt, worn on an opening shift where I knew I wouldn’t need to face the hottest part of the day.  The layers were perfect because I didn’t need to bother with the chambray for the first part of my shift but I had it when I needed it.  Meanwhile, I’m still hoping that someday people will figure out how to regulate AC so that you don’t experience a 20 degree drop in temperature when you walk in or out of a building!

This was clearly an off-day for my camera.  Or for me.  Either way, the only pictures that were in focus were the ones where I was in essentially the same pose.  Awesome.  So that explains your semi-blurry second picture.  Sorry guys.  Anyway…. You guys might be thinking that I’m a week late on my 4th of July post but I actually didn’t wear this on the 4th, but I definitely could have!  This was just what I wore for work one day.  Let me tell you a secret about this tank top too.  I liked it when I tried it on but I didn’t buy it initially.  And then when I picked up this skirt I realized that the tank would be SO cute with it so I went back the next day to pick it up!

*Points if you can tell me what my title was from!

There is absolutely nothing that says a simple outfit can’t be fabulous.  And there is nothing that says you can’t totally brighten up a basic black/white combo with a fabulous scarf!  This little outfit was chic and simple and even though I felt pulled together it just seemed like, since it’s summer, a pop of color would really bring this up to the next level.  And I think it did.
